Esterle, Max von
(6/16/1870, Cortina d’Ampezzo - 1/4/1947, Bezau)
Painter and portrait artist who was on the staff of Ludwig von Ficker's Der Brenner. It is probable that Trakl met him in Innsbruck starting from 1912 and had frequent contact. In November 1913, Trakl painted his self-portrait in Esterle's studio.

straightforward in its
abstract simplicity - very appropriate caricature for the Brenner. Furthermore, his drawing of Karl Kraus can be found on this website.
Although he was not a close friend of Trakl, the poem Winter Twilight was dedicated to him.
