Schwab, Franz
(1886, Taxenbach in the county of Salzburg - 1956, Vienna)

A schoolmate and a trusted friend in Georg's grade school starting from 1897. Literary exchanges and various excesses also allowed the relationship to exist further after Salzburg in Vienna , where he already studied medicine when Georg began with pharmacy in 1908. Together with Karl Minnich and Karl von Kalmár, Schwab was the sole contact which he maintained at the time besides his friend Erhard Bushbeck, who made usually unsuccessful efforts for useful acquaintances.

From 1912, when Trakl worked in Innsbruck, attached himself to Ludwig von Ficker and began going out during his visits to Vienna with Kraus, Loos and Kokoschka, he seems to have met his old dapper sidekick more rarely, but still occasionally slipped under in his dwelling in 1913. Schwab closed his studies with a Doctor of Medicine and became a physician. A last meeting took place in the middle of September 1914 on the campaign in Galicia, where Schwab was serving as a medical physician.
